Why Worry?

“Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; Before you were born, I sanctified you.” Jeremiah 1:4-5 (NKJV)

By Pastor Royston Smith

God has always been involved in your life. Before you were born, God had plans for you.  You have been purchased by the blood of Jesus, so you belong to him.  So, as you journey through life you can be assured of his protection and guidance. If you trust and lean on him, you will be victorious. David reminds us in Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

So, who controls your future? Too many of us are relying on our own knowledge. We try to take control of tomorrow by gazing into the future of those ‘not – yet – events.’ It has been said that, “a future focus can easily deteriorate into a problem – focus”. Accepting Jesus, guarantees you a bright future.  “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) In this unprecedented time your life might be overrun with weeds of worry and thorns of fear. Allow the Master Gardener (God) to uproot those weeds and to cut and poison those thorns.

Author, Ellen White truthfully writes, “God alone knows the future. The past, and present are alike to God. He sees the more remote events of past history, and the far distant future with as clear a vision as we do those things that are transpiring daily.”

You may ask, “How do I tune into the one who knows the future?”  You need to schedule a regular time for prayer. This will allow you to connect with God and be at peace as you trust Him for guidance.  Talk with God about your joys, your sorrows, your concerns, then listen for His direction. He knows best.

Don’t measure your life by the ticking clock. Measure it on the time you are spending with God. Prioritize your prayer time-keep your appointments with God. Your faith will develop as you experience God’s peace. One day you will realize your anxieties have disappeared. No one can live and experience the world in all its glories unless their steps are ordered by God. No one truly ‘gets God’ without following after him. Since God knows you and is able to see the future, there is no need to fear; if you walk with him.

Psalm 34:10 said: “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”

A Prayer for God’s Peace: Dear Jesus, help me learn to trust you.  Show me how to leave tomorrow’s worries with you.  Take control of my life so that I will radiate your peace. I place my future securely in your hands. In Your Name. Amen
