Croydon Comes Home – Croydon SDA Church’s Homecoming and Youth Choir Reunion

On the first Sabbath of September, a time of new beginnings for many children and students, Croydon SDA Church welcomed home members, friends and family past and present. Many of the pastoral alumni shared their tribute on this special day – Pastor Richard Daly, Pastor Samuel Ouadjo, Pastor Alex Mareniuc, Pastor Jesse Samuel, Pastor Pavle Trajkovski, Pastor Royston Smith, Pastor Errol Lawrence, Pastor Richard Daly. The pastors recognised and shared fond memories about Croydon’s vibrant cultures, its reputation for world-class music, community orientation, desire for excellence, history as ingathering champion from 1980-2010, its mission as a broadcasting church initiated during Covid, and its commitment to teaching the value of relationships, teamwork, and patience.

Pastors who paid their tributes in person included Pastor Brighton Kavaloh and Pastor Lincoln Haynes who was celebrating his 81st birthday that day with the Croydon SDA Church family. Both pastors recognised Croydon’s long history. Pastor Kavaloh talked about the importance of continuous recommitment to God’s mission and called for a minute’s silence to remember those that Croydon had laid to rest.

The guest speaker for the day was Pastor Keith Burton, a son of Croydon who returned to share a message entitled ‘Questions’. Reading from Matthew 16:13-18 he reminded the church of the privilege of knowing Jesus Christ and developing our faith and trust in Him.

The evening was celebrated with worship led by the reunion of Croydon SDA’s Youth Choir. Members of the Youth Choir, past and present, treated the audience to renditions of ‘Faithful is Our God’, ‘Siyahamba’, and ‘Hallelujah Salvation and Glory’. The church was reminded of one of the Youth Choir’s special moments of being recognised as one of the best youth choirs on Blue Peter in the 90s, a children’s programme.

The evening ended with the song ‘Total Praise’ a fitting end to a day of praise and worship to all that Croydon SDA Church is doing and will continue to do to reach, reclaim, retain and serve others.
