Get Active, Start Walking

Ideas for increasing your daily step count:
  1.  Set your  own realistic daily and weekly targets. The step up app allows people to set daily and weekly step goals. 
  2. Start with small goals – if your current average is 2000 steps a day aim to add 1000-1500 steps each week. Continue the gradual build up until 10K
  3. Incorporate walking into your routine- do more work on your  feet including standing more and walking on the spot during meetings and using a standing desk if you have access to one to do ‘paper’ work. 
  4. Use the stairs, park further away from the shops/work
  5. Take brisk walks during lunch breaks
  6. Use the 10 minute rule- start by committing to a 10 min walk daily and extend that to 10 min chunks, 3 -5 times a day.
  7. Remember that every step counts towards your personal health improvement plan. Although it is fun at times, you don’t need to be in competition with anyone
