Seven for Christ

By Sharna Brown

On July 31st 2021, Croydon SDA Church held its second baptismal service for the year. Heaven rejoiced as seven souls renounced the world and accepted Jesus Christ as their saviour. The service commenced with Pastor Royston Smith showcasing his choir directing skills, as he led the congregation in praise and worship. He was assisted by Pastor Andrew Cudjoe, whose euphonious voice led to him being invited to join the choir.

The candidates were congratulated for making the biggest decision of their lives by publicly making a commitment to God. The baptismal vows were read, and the candidates affirmed their acceptance of the vows by raising their hands.

The baptismal vows were read, and the candidates affirmed their acceptance of the vows by raising their hands.

Amongst the seven, the following candidates boldly entered the pool and got baptised:

1

Jill Tan: Jill is from Malaysia and was previously a Buddhist. About a year ago, Jill started studying the word of God and made a decision to follow Jesus. Jill is being mentored by Pastor Royston Smith.

2

  • Hannah Nunes: Hannah was the youngest candidate to be baptised. Hannah is the daughter of Elder Neil and Shirley Nunes. Hannah was born and bred in the church. She is well loved amongst the teens for always sharing her powerful thoughts.
  •

3

  • Allison Taylor: Allison wanted to come back to the Lord and made the decision to be baptised. Allison wants to utilise her talents to serve the Lord. She is currently studying with the Bible workers.
  •

4-6

O’Hamara Family: The initial euphoria was tripled when three members of one family (Elizabeth, Laura, and Maryann O’Hamara) got baptised. Pastor Smith recounted the story of the day a man was found sitting outside the church waiting for him. When he saw Pastor Smith he said, “My whole family needs to be baptised”. Pastor Smith also related a powerful testimony shared by Laura who had told him, “My father is a good man. Whatever choices my father makes in life are for the benefit of the family. So, whatever he does, I will model him.” What a wonderful example of godly parenting!
